FAQ

Questions our clients ask frequently
What is an OBGYN?

An obstetrician-gynaecologist, or OBGYN such as Dr van der Merwe, is a doctor who specialises in the treatment of women's health conditions. The female body undergoes numerous biological processes, such as menstruation, childbirth, and menopause. OBGYNs provide care for all of the conditions above and more.

What is the difference between obstetrics and gynaecology?

Obstetrics involves care during pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum. Gynaecology is the study of reproductive health and the functions and diseases that are unique to women and girls.

When should you visit an OBGYN?

Women who are healthy and aren't experiencing any reproductive health issues should get a preventive check-up at least once per year. In addition to your annual check-up, you should visit your OBGYN when changes in your reproductive cycle occur.

Does medical aid cover consultation and procedural fees?

Your medical aid provider will reimburse you for the costs associated with your selected plan. For guidance, you must consult your specific medical aid and plan. Dr van der Merwe is contracted out of medical aid rates.
